This blog examines behaviors and mental illnesses which are at the extreme edge of the human repertoire. Nevertheless, such behaviors and syndromes have at different times and cultures been considered normal. In this blog we will examine such behaviors and syndromes with an open mind, while attempting to understand that so-called normal behaviors in our own culture could be construed as abnormal in other parts of the world. Vilencia had to close his production company after a federal anti-animal cruelty law criminalized his film making in 1999. This law was in response to the depiction of live small animals being crushed or stomped on (and was sponsored by our local Southern California congressman Elton Gallegly). At this point I think we have to start wondering if this is a fetish or anti-social (psychopathic) behavior, especially since one of the warning signs in children destined to become psychopaths is cruelty to animals. One of the leading proponents of the crushing of live animals, Bryan Loudermilk , was himself crushed to death in a scenario where he had himself penned under a vehicle that had driven on to his abdomen - " Dr. Volkan teaches in the psychology department of California State University Channel Islands. He has written numerous journal articles and is the author of a book on compulsive drug use. He holds doctorates in clinical and educational psychology, as well as a masters degree in public health. Survive the Jive: Crush with the Law

“I don’t see a problem with killing small animals,” says Mistress Heel, a dominatrix who smashes the skulls of rodents with her stilettos in porn films. “But I would never kill a cat. There are many legal forms of crush video, including women standing on the faces and genitalia of men, but videos featuring women crushing the skulls of small mammals are illegal in the states and the UK. In April this year the US Supreme Court tried to decide whether videos depicting animal cruelty are protected by the First Amendment. Last summer the US Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit in Philadelphia voted 10-3 to find unconstitutional the rarely used law passed by Congress in 1999. This political activity is allegedly encouraging a resurgence in crush fetishism on both sides of the Atlantic. The Supreme Court expects to hear the case this Autumn. Jonathan R. Lovvorn, chief counsel of the Humane Society maintains that crush videos have already “popped back up on the Internet as a result of the Third Circuit’s ruling.” The argument against the 1999 law is that there is existing legislation to prevent animal cruelty in every state, but the 1999 law outlaws depictions of cruelty that may have happened in a time or place where they were legal, like a Spanish bull fight for example. The law has never been used for its intended purpose, to prosecute a crush fetishist.
